Ko Chang is a scenic island located in the Gulf of Thailand and belonging administratively to Trat Province. It is considered the second largest island of the country and it is extremely popular among tourists. The picturesque mountainous island is famous for its virgin beauty, making part of the Mu Ko Chang National Park (which occupies numerous further islands, too). Besides the rainforests, mountains and waterfalls of the island, Ko Chang is also well-known for its pristine beaches and thriving coral reefs. As I already mentioned it, the island is very famous and attractive for its natural beauty. It is characterized by mountainous landscapes and lush vegetation. The major part of Ko Chang is dominated by rainforests. In some parts you can also find coconut plantations and even beautiful orchards of lychee trees.

The mountainous nature allows the appearance of numerous wonderful waterfalls, including Klong Plu, Klong Nueng, Klong Nonsi and others. Besides waterfalls, there are also beautiful bays on the island. Ao Salak Phet is the largest one.

The Mu Ko Chang National Park

One of the highlights of the island is the breathtaking Mu Ko Chang National Park. It is a fantastic marine park which includes numerous islands of which the most prominent one is Ko Chang. The islands are protected due to their virgin natural environment and the fantastic coral reefs surrounding them. Visiting the national park is with no doubt a great experience.


There are several fine beaches on the island of which the most popular ones are Hat Tha Nam, Klong Prao Beach, Bailan Beach, Kai Bae Beach and others. The sand is white and soft, while the waters are clear and warm. The island is the perfect destination for the lovers of sun and sea. The most popular activities on Ko Chang are elephant trekking, hiking, diving and snorkeling, mountain biking and canoeing. There are numerous spas on the island, too. These offer different forms of aromatherapy and massage. Ko Chang is also home to numerous Thai cookery schools where you can learn how to prepare a delicious Thai dish.
