When you think of Bangkok, you probably think of crowded streets, immense skyscrapers and huge shopping malls. The truth is that the Thai capital city boasts in astonishing open spaces which are very attractive for both local people and visitors of the city. These parks offer the possibility for practicing fantastic outdoor activities such as playing football, tennis, swimming in the swimming pools and others. Some of the most beautiful open spaces in Bangkok are the following: the Lumpini Park, the Rama IX Park, the Benjasiri Park, the Romaneenart Park, the Chatuchak Park and so on. The Lumpini Park

One of the most beautiful open spaces in Bangkok is the wonderful Lumpini Park. The park occupies an immense surface of about 500.000 km². It is the perfect location if you are looking for virgin nature and great relaxation.

Besides varied plant species, the park is home to numerous animals. The “green lung” of the city gets really crowded during the weekends. It welcomes people of all ages, having something to offer to everyone. Paddleboating, practicing tai chi, jogging and aerobic dancing are just some of the outdoor activities that can be practiced here.

The Rama IX Park

Another extremely popular park is also the city’s largest one – the fantastic Rama IX Park. Being home to some breathtaking gardens, a large lake and an interesting botanical garden, the park attracts dozens of local people every day.

It is located about 15 km from the centre of the city. It is important to mention that the park is open daily from 5:00 until 18:00 and there is an admission fee of 10 baht. (May 2013) Some outdoor activities can be practiced here, too.

The Benjasiri Park

Also named the “Queen’s Park”, the Benjasiri Park is home to dozens of sculptures. If you love sculptures, this is the right place to go. The centerpiece is a breathtaking fountain, but there are numerous examples of Thai sculpture here. Playing basketball or tennis, roller skating, skateboarding or swimming in the outdoor swimming pool are some of the popular outdoor activities. The park is open daily from 5:00 to 21:00. (May 2013)

The Romaneenart Park

Situated closely to the Giant Wing, the Romaneenart Park is home to several wonderful fountains. These fountains keep the park cool. It is also very popular among local people. The park is open every day from 5:00 to 21:00. (May 2013)

The Chatuchak Park

The great Chatuchak Park is a fantastic green space in the middle of the city. The park includes a pond where fishermen have the occasion to practice their hobby. It also includes several soccer fields and tennis courts. The park is open every day from 4:30 to 21:00. (May 2013)
