The best diving spots in the Andaman Sea belonging to Thailand

Perhaps you know that scuba diving is extremely popular in the country. There are dozens of excellent diving sites spread in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand which attract more and more divers every year. Below I will present you the best diving spots in the Andaman Sea belonging to Thailand. Diving at any of the following sites will surely make a memorable experience. From fantastic coral reefs to breathtaking ship wrecks, from whale sharks to manta rays divers can admire the magnificent underwater life. Some of the best destinations in the Andaman Sea where visitors can dive are the following: Phuket, the Similan Islands, Ko Lanta, Krabi Province, the Surin Islands and others.

Phuket

Presenting the largest diving site of the country, Phuket is a major destination for divers in Thailand. The biggest island of the country is surrounded by gorgeous coral reefs. The abundance of the underwater life attracts a large number of divers. Rach Yai is the best-known dive site around Phuket which is famous for its colorful coral reefs. If you would like to see a ship wreck, Ter Bay is the place to go. Racha Noi is recommended for experienced divers because the depths are bigger, but you have the chance to see manta rays and whale sharks. Koh Doc Mai is another popular site where you can see moray eels, leopard sharks, turtles and even octopus.

The Similan Islands

The Similan Islands are famous for the magnificent diving sites spread around them. All the nine islands are well-known for the coral reefs surrounding them. Ko Bon is the most popular island for divers. Some other famous diving sites near the Similan Islands are the following: “Stonehenge”, “West of Eden”, “East of Eden”, “Snapper Alley”, “Elephant Head Rock” and others.

Ko Lanta

The underwater life at Ko Lanta is breathtaking, presenting also some gorgeous pinnacles. It is important to mention that many sites are recommended for experienced divers due to the strong currents. There are spectacular and large underwater caverns which are great for adventure. Besides, divers have the opportunity to see whale sharks or manta rays here. For the beginners I should recommend Koh Haa. There are calm conditions, and an abundance of underwater life and good visibility.

Krabi Province

With dozens of fantastic diving sites, Krabi is another destination for divers. Besides the great diversity of underwater life, limestone cliffs and soft corals are also very attractive for divers. The main dive sites are at Railay and Ao Nang beaches. Ao Nang is extremely popular among divers. There are dozens of dive centres where you can book for an unforgettable dive.

The Surin Islands

If you are interested in virgin coral reefs, the Surin Islands diving sites are the best choice. Whale sharks, manta rays, moray eels, barracudas and numerous species of fish can be admired in the region’s diving sites.
