One of the most fascinating and most popular areas of the country, Central Thailand is a major tourist destination, corresponding majorly with the huge metropolitan area of Bangkok. The region is also named the Central Plains due to the “endless” plain which dominates the landscape of the area.

Besides the famous and fascinating city of Bangkok, there are several wonderful cities and tourist destinations which are with no doubt worth visiting. Some of the most popular destinations of Central Thailand are the following: the historic city of Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Hua Hin, Ko Kret, the Erawan National Park and others. Getting around in Central Thailand is with no doubt an unforgettable travel experience.


As one of the most popular tourist destinations of Thailand, Bangkok is a fantastic city. It is home to wonderful palaces, Buddhist temples, statues, museums, fantastic bars, restaurants, parks, gardens and numerous other sights. Besides the visitor attractions, Bangkok has some fantastic activities and entertainment options to offer its visitors, including Muay Thai (Thai boxing), different performances, some great spa facilities, horse races and others. It also hosts some fantastic festivals and events, such as the Songkran Festival. Bangkok is with no doubt a premier tourist destination.

It is considered the ancient capital city of Thailand. The city’s main highlight is its central part which is a historical park, protecting the ancient temple ruins of the city. This park is a famous World Heritage Site, attracting dozens of visitors every year. Ayutthaya is extremely popular in Thailand. It is a must-see tourist attraction if you visit Central Thailand.

Kanchanaburi is famous for being the site where the famous Bridge over the River Kwai is situated. Besides this popular visitor attraction, the city is home to several beautiful temples and museums commemorating the World War II.

Hua Hin

The oldest beach resort of the country is the beautiful city of Hua Hin. It is still very popular among tourists. The beach attracts dozens of tourists, especially residents of Bangkok who visit Hua Hin mainly during weekends. Its surrounding area boasts of a natural beauty, including several natural jewels.

Ko Kret

Ko Kret is a scenic little island situated in the Chao Phraya River. It is famous as a pottery island and as home to the Mon tribes. You can buy some wonderful Mon potteries and even admire the way these are made by the locals.

The Erawan National Park

Protecting some of Thailand’s most beautiful waterfalls, the Erawan National Park is a very attractive visitor attraction of Central Thailand. Besides the wonderful seven-tiered Erwan Falls, there are some beautiful caves in the park, too.
