Eat at one of Phuket’s floating restaurants

Eating at a floating restaurant is a unique experience. If you spend your holiday in Phuket, you will have the opportunity to try it, because there are four floating restaurants on the island. These can be found along the eastern coast of it. The floating restaurants are called Kranchang which in Thai means fishing basket. You need to make a 5-minute boat ride to reach the restaurants. The four floating restaurants are the following: Bang Mud Laem Hin, the Black Crab Restaurant, Bang Gaan Seafood and Kru Suwit. These are great seafood restaurants where visitors can eat delicious fish, crab, shrimp, eel, groupers and even Leopard shark. If you are in Phuket, make sure to eat at least one of these restaurants.

The four floating restaurants

The seafood floating restaurants are fantastic. These are very popular among tourists. The restaurants practically stand on large connected wooden rafts. The benches and tables are also made of wood. These are not luxurious, but unique and relaxing restaurants. The guests can walk along the planks full of seafood and choose of these. There is a large variety of seafood on offer: fish, shrimp, crab, groupers, eel and so on. The atmosphere is relaxing and peaceful. You will surely be satisfied by the services and the delicious food. One of the four restaurants, the Black Crab Restaurant is very popular. The chairs are made of plastic. As for the decoration, there is no special décor here except a few plants. Made up of local people, the staff is cheerful.

The menu

Fresh seafood is always on offer in the four floating restaurants. The seafood is varied and delicious. You can eat here fish, crab, shrimp, eel, groupers and even Leopard shark. You will surely be satisfied by the menu and the wines, because delicious wines are also on offer. The restaurants buy seafood from local fisherman. Oysters are also on the menu. Usually these are served with garlic, chili, different herbs and lime. Fried shrimp and crab are also very delicious. Delicious soups are also available in the restaurants. Some dishes can be very expensive so check the menu before ordering.

Good to know about the restaurants

The restaurants are usually open from 10:00 to 22:00. They say that the best time to visit the restaurants is at 17:30 because the weather is cooler. It is important to mention that the boat ride is free. At some of the restaurants alcohol is not on offer, but if you would like, you can bring along any alcoholic drink with you. The staff is made up of local people who are very cheerful. Instead of waiting for your food at the table, take a walk around the restaurant and admire the living sea creatures which are on the menu. You can see beautiful creatures here, such as Moray Eels, Leopard shark, Mantis shrimps and so on.
